COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Highway Patrol officials were on the scene of an accident involving an 18-wheeler and a bus on Hwy. 74/76 in Bolton Wednesday afternoon. According to officials on the scene, the tour bus was rear-ended when turning onto Sam Potts Highway.

The bus involved is a tour bus that was carrying 60 students and five adults from the Cannon School in Concord, NC. Emergency workers say 15 people with minor injuries were taken to nearby hospitals.

The bus was reportedly heading to a church camp in Oak Island. Those not taken to a hospital were taken to a local nearby church Wednesday night.

A school spokesperson said Thursday that the students who were evaluated after the crash have been released, and the trip has continued on to Oak Island as originally planned.

They will return to the school Friday evening.
