Big Dawg's new play begins with shocking announcement

Big Dawg Productions presents 'Night Mother' at the Cape Fear Playhouse.

Jessie announces one night she is going to kill herself in 'Night Mother.'

Performances run through August 25 at the Cape Fear Playhouse.

WILINGTON, NC (WECT) - Big Dawg's newest production takes a close look at a difficult situation.

'Night Mother, by Marsha Norman, centers around two women. Jessie is a single mother who suffers from depression and epilepsy and Mama loves to talk and allows her daughter to tend to her.

One ordinary Saturday evening, Jessie announces she's going to kill herself.

The rest of the show is a dramatic look at how each woman handles this realization.

"There's very little theatrical about it," said actress Kat Vernon. "So it's almost like the wall of the house has been lifted away, so you get to simply watch and observe and how fascinating to get to see such an intense conversation between these two women."
