HOLLYWOOD, CA (WECT) - The world premiere of Iron Man 3 was a star-studded event.
Ashlea Kosikowski and Ryan Koresko talked to the biggest stars on the red carpet, and many gushed about their time filming in and around Wilmington.
"We were just saying we had a blast there," said Robert Downey Jr., who stood with his wife on his arm."We stayed on Figure 8 Island and the locals were so cool to us and we have such fond memories."
When asked if he would return, he responded, "I would go back in a heartbeat. I love it there."
RDJ was not the only one with fond memories of the Port City.
"We loved it," said Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in Iron Man 3. "It was so beautiful. We had a nice summer there it was amazing."
Don Cheadle also talked about his experience filming last summer.
"It was hot in that suit," he joked. "I will tell you that it was great. I stayed on the golf course (Landfall). Everybody was really kind to me."
Cheadle said he enjoyed a few rounds of golf at Landfall and Eagle Point. However, the cast and crew didn't get much down time. Even so, Shane Black, Iron Man 3's director, said he got to enjoy the beach.
"Wilmington was a peaceful place," he said. Black stayed at Wrightsville Beach during his time working on the film.
Black said it's exciting to see the project come to the big screen.
"It's people getting a chance to see what we've spent two years working on, so it's a big payoff," Black said. "It's going to be a thrill ride that surprises people, so, that's what people can expect: thrills and surprises."
"I was very surprised by when I read the script that I was going to get the action sequences and it was really great," said Paltrow.
The best thing about suiting up in the Iron Man costume for her? "Seeing my son's face when I put on the Iron Man suit," she replied.
We asked RDJ what the audience in Wilmington can expect when they watch the latest Iron Man flick.
"I think they can expect to be entertained," he said. "I found the people (in Wilmington) smart and engaging and cool and I think this movie really works and I hope they have a good time."
