NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Progress North Carolina joined residents in New Hanover County Monday morning to speak out against proposed bills that would restrict early voting.
House Bill 451, also known as the "Longer Lines to Vote" bill, would cut the early voting period by more than a week and eliminate Sunday voting.
Progress North Carolina held a news conference at the New Hanover Main Library Monday morning where they shared new poll results they say show 78% of North Carolina voters support early voting.
The new bill would cut early voting from 17 days to 6 (S721). Another new bill filed last week proposes removing tax exemptions for parents of college students who register to vote in the community they attend college.
