WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Many children with autism are placed in mainstream classrooms. Often misunderstood, subject to bullying, and as a result, are lost in the shuffle. In 2012, approximately 1 in 68 of the children enrolled in New Hanover County Schools were diagnosed with autism.
A local organization called OASIS NC providing a much needed service and support by helping children around the area in a big way.
OASIS NC is a non-profit organization committed to providing support and creating a safe haven for children with autism and their families. The teachers use evidence-based practices in all of our programs to target a broad range of educational, behavioral, social, and communication needs in a supportive environment.
OASIS NC is opening Oasis Day School, a private school for children with high-functioning autism entering grades K-2, in September 2013. There will be an Open House Saturday, May 4 (9am-12pm).
