NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - WECT has learned that North Carolina is 8th in the country for sex trafficking, and Wilmington is also high on that list.

Those numbers are grabbing the attention of two state lawmakers.

Democratic State Representative Susi Hamilton and Republican State Senator Thom Goolsby both plan to support a ruling that would take parental rights away from men considered "pimps."

The lawmakers say that the bill would make those men register as sex offenders.

Both lawmakers also want to help victims of sex trafficking, saying they'll help clear their record if they get off of drugs and get an education.
