Hampstead car accident leaves three with serious injuries

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WECT) - At least one person is in critical condition after a car accident that happened over the weekend.

Chris Brown was driving a car carrying Victoria Rivas and Zachary Johnson down Olde Point Road around 10:30 Saturday night.

According to Highway Patrol, the car was traveling at 80 miles an hour in a 35 mph zone when Brown steered off the road, hitting a mailbox and a dirt driveway. After impact, the car became airborne and landed in a nearby wood line after striking several trees first.

Highway Patrol said the speed of impact was also at 80 mph, and Brown was ejected from the car. All involved sustained serious injuries and were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Johnson was airlifted and is considered in critical condition.

No one was wearing a seatbelt and the crash report shows drugs and alcohol were involved.

Brown and Johnson were both graduates of Topsail High School.
