WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Hundreds of comic book lovers made their way to Fanboy Comics in Wilmington to get their hands on some free ink for Free Comic Book Day. But, two people decided to use the occasion to tie the knot.
Adam Mason and Donnita Johnson had a quick, almost impromptu wedding ceremony at the beginning of Free Comic Book Day. The pair got engaged last week and made the decision in the past couple of days to get married at Fanboy Comics.
"It was a little sudden, spur of the moment," Donnita said. "[He proposed,]I said yes, and as soon as we got here people were like 'why don't you get married at free comic book day? So we were like, 'why not?'"
They said as soon as they met, they found out about each other's geeky interests.
"Pretty much I was like look, I'm a big dork, I like Harry Potter, I like Lord of the Rings, I like all of this stuff and he was like, 'I like that' and gave me the thumbs up," she said.
The wedding was complete with a Princes Leia bridesmaid, a Spiderman best man and Batman and Wonder Woman wedding rings. The pair dressed up in Batman and Wonder Woman attire for the ceremony. They said life is about having fun and expressing who you are and the things you love.
"Don't be afraid to do what you want, don't make it too serious, enjoy life," Adam said. "That's what this is all about, enjoying life, having fun and having a good time."
