WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An elementary school teacher in Pender County has resigned after facing drug charges in Wilmington.

Lori Kirkpatrick, 43, and Anthony Baxter Lisk, 44, were both arrested in November 2011 during a traffic stop and charged with possession and trafficking a schedule II narcotic.

Kirkpatrick had been suspended without pay from Pender County schools since December. She turned in her official resignation last week.

Kirkpatrick had been an employee of Pender County Schools since 1996. School officials said she has had no prior disciplinary actions with the school system until now.

According to court records, the only other time Kirkpatrick has been in trouble was for bad checks between 1991 and 2004.

The former school teacher is scheduled to appear in court March 12.
