NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A woman was killed Wednesday night after being hit by a vehicle as she was trying to cross the road.

According to Highway Patrol, Clare Craft, 50, was leaving the Junction Pub and Billiards around 8:30 p.m. and tried to walk across Carolina Beach Road.

Marty Thornton was driving on Carolina Beach Road and hit Craft. Authorities said Thornton will not face any charges.

Troopers suspect Craft had been drinking, which could have contributed to the accident.
