WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Thousands of people in over 200 cities participated in a flash mob meditation on Thursday at 11:11 a.m., including a group in Wilmington.
In front of the theater at Mayfaire Town Center, a crowd gathered with the intention to "exude an inner peace, strength and happiness intended to brighten the day of every observer."
The meditation lasted for an hour and concluded with a 10-minute sound bath.
The movement, called MedMob, started in January 2011 when 60 people attended a meditation flash mob at the Texas State Capitol, according to a news release. The event grew to 250 people the next month with seven other cities joining and is now a world-wide movement.
