BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A woman from Supply was killed Monday morning after a teen passed another vehicle in a no passing zone.
According to Trooper K.E. Herring, Lajai Webster, 16 of Longwood, was on his way to West Brunswick High School when he passed a car in a no passing zone. He lost control of his vehicle as he came back into his lane after passing and collided head first with oncoming traffic.
Herring said Rita Alford, of Supply, was in the other vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Alford's passenger, Erin West, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she is listed in serious condition.
Webster was also taken to NHRMC but his condition is unknown at this time.
Herring said it appears that neither driver was wearing their seatbelt during the accident. Charges are pending.
