WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A 60-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon while driving his Antique 1955 Morgan convertible on South Third Street.

According to police, William Samuel White, of Wilmington, was operating the vehicle heading northbound near Greenfield Lake Park.   Investigators determined White merged from Carolina Beach road onto Third Street, crossing the center double yellow lines and crashing head first into a 2008 Kia Spectra in the other lane.

Officers said White's vehicle did not have seatbelts and he died on impact.  His passenger, Abby Star Cottle, 21 of Wilmington, was taken to the hospital to be treated for critical injuries.

According to police, the driver and passenger in the Kia were taken to the hospital for treatment, but have since been released.

Investigators say it is clear White crossed the center lines, but it is unknown what caused him to do so at this time.
