Police: Man admits to drinking and driving, accused of causing fatal crash

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man accused of causing a fatal accident is still in the hospital, three days after the crash.

According to Chadbourn Police, Sylvia Covington, 47, was in a car with her husband, Curtis Watson, their son Marcus Wharton and his girlfriend Crysta Williams, who was driving, on Pine Log Road.  They said James Bellamy, who was driving in a different vehicle, hit Covington's family around 5:30 Monday night.

Covington died on the scene and her husband is listed in intensive care.  Covington's son suffered a fractured neck and is getting treatment at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  The condition of the girlfriend is unknown at this time.

Bellamy is also in the hospital.  Police say he admitted to drinking and driving and will be charged with DWI when he is released.   According to investigators he will also be charged with felony death by motor vehicle.
