NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials met in New Hanover County Friday to discuss the future of beach renourishment projects.
Beach communities were left scrambling this year when federal fund for beach projects dried up. Many ideas were tossed around during the meeting to ensure that doesn't happen again.
One idea is to petition the state to use a portion of the room occupancy tax for beach projects. Carolina, Kure and Wrightsville Beach leaders are also working closely with their lobbyists in Washington to try to convince lawmakers to continue funding projects with federal money.
Friday's meeting was the first of many between the beach towns. They will meet again in the coming weeks to finalize a plan
