WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Prayot Bunmeema's loved ones waited for him to return from his sixth deployment overseas.
But that's not all that was waiting for him back in the U.S. Local surfboard builder Ian Balding made a standup paddle board for Prayot.
"It gives me nothing but pride," said Balding.
This isn't just a new board for a respected veteran, because Balding inlayed the American flag that Prayot carried through Afghanistan into the board.
"I didn't want anything that was made in China," said Prayot, "I wanted it custom made in America."
Standup paddle boarding is growing in popularity. Prayot will take his new board, and his new hobby, back home to Charleston, South Carolina.
