LELAND, NC (WECT) - Students at The Roger Bacon Academy-Charter Day School got an active lesson on the world of politics with several special visits Monday.
Middle school students heard from 7th District Congressional candidate Ilario Pantano, Brunswick County Commission Chairman Bill Sue, and Leland Mayor Pro Tem Brenda Bozeman. They also watched a video appearance from Congressman Mike McIntyre.
The event was aimed at showing students what the democratic process is actually like.
In addition to hearing from the adult speakers, student government candidates made speeches in hopes of convincing their fellow students to vote for them. After the speeches, students headed to some voting booths to choose their top candidates.
Abby LaFave, who decked out the campus with her campaign signs, won the most votes on Monday. She will become the president of the Student Government Association.
