NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County officials are investigating allegations of an inappropriate relationship between the assistant principal at Laney High School and a student.

According to Valita Quattlebaum with New Hanover County schools, the district was notified of the allegations Tuesday evening and referred it to law enforcement Wednesday.

Quattlebaum said Assistant Principal Stephanie Robin Lamberty has been suspended with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.

"We take these allegations very seriously. We will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior," said Superintendent Dr. Tim Markley.

Lamberty was hired by New Hanover County Schools in August 2007 and started working at Laney in July 2010.  She had previously been the reading coach at Snipes Academy.

According to Quattlebaum, the board's attorney, Wayne Bullard, has been informed of the situation.
