PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A bill that would allow voters to recall an elected official passed the Senate Committee on state and local government Tuesday in a 6-5 vote.
The bill now goes to the Senate floor for a full debate, but it is unclear when that will happen.
The bill, sponsored by Representative Carolyn Justice, would give residents of Topsail Beach the ability to recall an elected official. If 30 percent of voters sign a recall petition, a recall election would take place within 60 days.
Justice said she's lived in Pender County for 32 years and is very confident that a large number of property owners and voters in Topsail want this bill.
