WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested a man Friday afternoon in connection with the shooting death of Roshad Donta Jenkins, 22.
According to Lucy Crockett with WPD, Willis James Sarvis, 32, was apprehended by officers with several law enforcement agencies.
Police say Jenkins was shot to death early Friday morning at Liberty Court in the Hillcrest neighborhood. He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Neighbors say they woke up just before 1:30 a.m. after they heard several shots fired. Neighbor Erica Balloon said she dropped to the ground when she heard the "pops." Balloon said the gunshots sound like they were coming into her house.
"It had me scared so bad," said Balloon. "I went in my kids' room to try to grab them off their bed so they could be low."
A large crowd gathered outside as Wilmington Police Officers and detectives investigated the scene.
Crockett said two firearms were recovered during the investigation: one from the victim the other used to shoot the victim. The black Toyota Camry seen driving away from the scene was also seized.
According to police, Jenkins and Sarvis knew each other and didn't live in the Hillcrest community. The incident is believed to be drug related.
Sarvis was charged with:
- Possession of a firearm by a felon
- Shooting into an occupied dwelling
- Shooting into an occupied vehicle
- Sell/deliver narcotics
