Man in officer-involved shooting identified; in serious condition at ECU Health
CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Deputies say a man who was shot by Carteret County deputies late Sunday will face charges when he is released from the hospital.
Deputies say Jamie Marion is in serious condition at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville,
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies found the 38-year-old Marion firing shotgun rounds in his yard in the Riverwoods subdivision outside Newport Sunday evening after responding to a call reporting shots had been fired.
Officials say when deputies tried to talk to Marion, he pointed the shotgun at the deputies.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputies then opened fire, hitting him in the stomach area.
Marion was taken to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City before being flown to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
WITN is told he’s being treated for at least one gunshot wound.
Deputies say Marion will be charged with two counts of assault on a government official when he is released from ECU Health.
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting, as with all officer-involved shootings in the state.
