Southbound lanes of U.S. 17 reopen near Hampstead following crash

HAMPSTEAD, N.C. (WECT) - The southbound lanes of U.S. 17 are now open following a vehicle crash near Hampstead.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, both lanes temporarily closed at around 7:30 a.m. near Merchant Circle.
Per a North Carolina State Highway Patrol representative, a driver heading south on U.S. 17 swerved to avoid rear-ending the car in front of them, as traffic had suddenly come to a halt. The vehicle left the roadway before hitting a curb and overturning.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
