‘Pretty scary’: Homeowner, neighbor describes early morning Socastee house fire; 1 hurt
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - The roof of a home was left blackened and charred after flames engulfed it early Wednesday morning.
Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Grousewood Drive in the Socastee area at 5:19 a.m. and was assisted by Myrtle Beach Fire.
The injured person was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures.
The homeowner said it was his wife who was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. He told us she is expected to recover completely.
The neighbor of that family, Bob Bousquet, said he has lived on Grousewood Drive for seven years.
He said when he woke up this morning, he smelled smoke and then received a phone call from his neighbor in a panic, and rushed outside.
“It was really something I’ll tell ya. Pretty scary and all the equipment here, I mean they had trucks, 12 trucks there you know.” Bousquet said. “It was just too far gone. I think, by the time they got here and they started putting some water on it, it was just beyond saving it.”
The owner of the house also said that the fire started in his home’s attic and took over his entire home.
Anthony Casey with The Horry County Fire Rescue said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
