WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The annual Blue Ribbon Run, a 5k race that raises awareness about coloretal cancer, is set for this Saturday, April 2. The event will take place at Long Leaf Park. Participants have the option to run in-person or run virtually. There is also a one-mile run which can be done in-person or virtually.
The annual race also raises money for colon cancer research. To date, the Blue Ribbon Foundation has raised over $200,000 which funds research and local residents who need financial assistance while undergoing treatment.
“The race helps with that because all of the money that we receive from our amazing sponsors not only goes to an endowment that we have established at UNC Lineberger, but we very much not only emotionally but financially help those in our community battling colerectal cancer,” says Ana Brown, founder of the Blue Ribbon Run.
Dr. Channing Der from the Der Lab at UNC Lineberger will be a special guests at the race. A reception at the Dockside Restaurant following the race with live music from Lunar Tide!
Hundreds of runners are already signed up for the race that starts at 4 p.m., but registration is still open.
