WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Novant Health received the inaugural Health System and Patient Support Team of the Year Award from the American Cancer Society.

The Award recognizes a health system that provides exemplary health care to its patients in alignment with the American Cancer Society’s mission which is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

Michelle Hoadley with Novant Health Zimmer Cancer Institute says that partnering with the American Cancer Society helped to make a difference for patients in the community.

“For many years, they’ve been able to partner with us, with volunteer services — we had a very successful Road to Recovery program where over three years we provided 8,000 or more rides for patients and it was all volunteer based,” said Hoadley.

The Zimmer Center at Novant Health is the only cancer center dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and support of cancer patients in southeastern North Carolina.
