COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - Two more people have been arrested Thursday in connection with the Anthony Spivey case.
The man who claimed to be a father figure to Spivey, Dean Sasser, and his wife, Debbie Sasser, were arrested Thursday by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Both have been charged with obstruction of justice and are being detained under a $750,000 secured bond. Their bond amount was increased from $100,000 to $750,000 during their first appearance in court Friday afternoon.
During Dean Sasser’s first appearance he said that he hired his own attorney-- who also happens to be Spivey’s attorney.
Both Debbie and Dean will appear in court again on March 17th.
The sheriff’s office says that Spivey, the former Chadbourn police chief who is facing dozens of charges, had staged his own death in an apparent attempt to evade criminal conviction.
