East Bladen boys soccer program suspends workouts, games through Feb. 22 due to Covid-19

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (WECT) - Beginning Thursday, the East Bladen High School boys soccer team has suspended workouts and competitive play through Feb. 22 due to Covid-19.

According to a news release from the district, twenty individuals associated with the program were determined to have been in close contact with a person who recently tested positive for the virus. Citing privacy laws, the district will not release any additional details.

The affected individuals will remain off campus for two weeks.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association is aware of the situation. Games scheduled against Red Springs (Feb. 10), West Bladen (Feb. 15), and St. Paul’s (Feb. 18) have been canceled.

“The safety and well-being of Bladen County Schools’ students and staff is always our number one priority. We are taking extra steps to ensure the safety of all. Bladen County Schools are following CDC and DHHS guidelines as we continue to monitor the situation,” a news release from the district stated.
