A family is homeless after a kitchen fire

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Authorities say no one was hurt and three cats were saved from a house fire in Wilmington Friday afternoon.

According to a spokeswoman for the Wilmington Fire Department, crews were dispatched to Kingston Road around 2:45 p.m. for reports of a structure fire.

Smoke and flames were visible as crews arrived at the scene and firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, the spokeswoman said.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters also managed to save three cats from inside the house.

The spokeswoman said one of the firefighters even donated two crates to the displaced homeowners for the cats to stay in. The Red Cross is currently assisting the family, she added.

Investigators said that it was ruled an accidental cooking fire and damage was contained to the kitchen area.
