Deputies release new details in shooting that injured one person, shut down major intersection

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has released new details after a shooting Sunday evening injured one man and shut down a major intersection in the county.

According to a news release, deputies responded to the intersection of North College Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway around 6 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle being struck by gunfire.

When deputies arrived, they found the driver, Edward Wilson, suffering from a gunshot to his leg and forehead. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Deputies say a juvenile who was also in the vehicle was “observed discarding a 9mm handgun as well as a small amount of marijuana” in some nearby bushes. A third person in the vehicle, Javante McAllister-Sanders, had outstanding warrants and was booked in jail under a $250 bond.

The minor was taken to the county’s juvenile detention center.

No other details were released.
