UPDATE: CFPUA rescinds boil water advisory issued for parts of Ann and South 15th Streets

CFPUA: Emergency water main repair closes part of Ann, South 15th streets; boil water advisory issue

UPDATE: “CFPUA has rescinded a precautionary boil water advisory for homes in the area of Ann and South 15th streets. Water service in the area has returned to normal,” according to the water provider.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - CFPUA crews are on the scene after an apparent lightning strike caused a water main break near the intersection of Ann and South 15th streets in Wilmington Friday afternoon.

The 1400 and 1500 blocks of Ann Street and the 200 and 300 blocks of South 15th Street are closed to all but local traffic until further notice as crews work to fix the water main.

Due to the break, a boil water advisory will be issued for the following addresses: the 1300 through 1500 blocks of Ann Street; the 1300 through 1500 blocks of Orange Street; the 200 through 300 blocks of South 14th Street; the 200 through 300 blocks of South 15th Street; all of Kendall Avenue; 123 and 201 S. 13th St.; 121 S. 15th St.; and 140 S. 16th St.

The advisory will impact approximately 90 customers in the area.

Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. They also may use another water source such as bottled water.

Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption, and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.
