UPDATE: Police identify the man who washed ashore on Caswell Beach, cause of death still undetermined

CASWELL BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - UPDATE: Police have identified the individual who was found on Caswell Beach on Friday morning.

“The body found on the Caswell Beach strand yesterday morning has been identified as Jon Eden, 78, of Bozeman, Montana. Mr. Eden was a frequent visitor to our area, but had no other ties to Brunswick County that we were able to ascertain. The exact cause of his death has yet to be determined, as the autopsy is pending. Further updates to this release are possible when more information becomes available,” according to a statement from police.

A body washed ashore Friday morning in Caswell Beach, according to police.

Caswell Beach Police Chief Sam Massey said the body was found shortly after 6 a.m. just east of Pinehurst Drive.

Massey said the man, who had no identification on him, appeared to be in his late 50s or early 60s.

The body was taken to Dosher Hospital for identification.
