Oak Island home destroyed, three others damaged in afternoon fire

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) - One home was destroyed, and three others were damaged during a fire in Oak Island Tuesday afternoon.

According to Brunswick County dispatch officials, the fire was first reported just before 4 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Beach Drive. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene.

Tina Belmaggio was on the beach and quickly called for help.

“We kept looking and then when I saw the first flame come up” said Belmaggio, “I got up and ran and called 911. By then I saw a lot of people on the beach calling 911.”

David Capilupo says it didn’t take long for the house to be burnt to the ground. “I would say within 6 to 8 minutes that house was gone,” said Capilupp.

No injuries have been reported. There’s no word yet what caused the fire.
