COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A Chadbourn man is accused of fatally shooting another man at a convenience store in Columbus County Monday afternoon.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that deputies responded to the Time Saver on Vinson Boulevard in the town of Brunswick, just outside of Whiteville, around 2:20 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired.

Once deputies arrived at the scene, they found Brandon Demarcus Baldwin, 32, of Whiteville, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Investigators interviewed witnesses, obtained nearby security video, and eventually identified Anthony Edward Wright Jr., 33, of Chadbourn, as the gunman. A manhunt ensued.

At approximately 11:00 pm, Wright turned himself in at the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center. He was processed and booked with no bond.

An autopsy on Baldwin will be completed this week, sheriff’s officials say.

This is an ongoing investigation. If you have information concerning this incident, please contact Detective P. Rockenbach at (910) 770-2145 or contact Columbus County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 642-6551.
