White Oak man dies from injuries suffered in wreck on NC 87

BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A White Oak man died early Wednesday morning due to injuries he suffered in a wreck the day before.

According to Trooper D.O. Anders with the State Highway Patrol, Steve Smith, 58, was heading west Tuesday morning on Tar Heel Road when the driver of a tractor trailer heading northbound on NC 87 ran a red light at the intersection.

The tractor trailer then collided with Smith’s vehicle.

Smith, who was ejected from the vehicle, was taken to Cape Fear Valley where he later died due to his injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Corey Bordeaux, 51, of Elizabethtown, was not injured in the wreck.

Trooper Anders said Bordeaux will be charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle along with failure to stop at a red light.
