Gas leak snarls traffic, delays school buses

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A gas leak in Wilmington snarled traffic in the northern part of the county Friday afternoon.

Authorities shut down a portion of Market Street and Military Cutoff Road as crews worked to fix the leak. According to a tweet from the Wilmington Fire Department, the 7000 block of Market Street as well as northbound Military Cutoff Road onto Market Street were closed.

New Hanover County School officials called parents to let them know their child’s bus may be delayed. Parents are encouraged to contact the school specifically with any questions or changes to their child’s transportation plans.

As of 5:30 p.m. Friday, one lane of Market Street traveling southbound remained closed as crews worked to repair the gas line.
