Brunswick County Government Complex closed following water main break

BOLIVIA, N.C. (WECT) - Brunswick County Publics Utilities has rescinded two boil water advisories for areas near the Brunswick County’s Government Complex in Bolivia following a water main break Wednesday morning.

The boil advisories affected the following areas:

  • Old Ocean Highway (Government Center Drive to Old Johnson Road)
  • Old Johnson Road
  • Randolphville Road (Old Ocean Highway to Galloway Road)
  • Mary Frances Court
  • Minnie’s Dream Lane
  • Zim’s Trail
  • Autumn Lane
  • Johnsonville Road
  • Evan’s Road
  • North Piney Grove Road
  • George T. Bryant Road
  • Bryant Hawkins Drive
  • Mantua Avenue
  • The Brunswick County Government Complex
  • Green Lewis Road (Business 17 to Jones St.)
  • Knox St.
  • Business 17 (Green Lewis Rd. to Cox St.)
  • Cox St.
  • Mercer St.

The offices at the government complex and the courthouse closed early Wednesday, Jan. 15 due to the water main break in front of the complex.

The water line was damaged after it was inadvertently hit by a subcontractor during a boring project to relocate utilities in anticipation of an upcoming and unrelated Department of Transportation project to replace a drainage box culvert damaged during Hurricane Florence.

The government complex and the courthouse resumed normal operations on Thursday.

Brunswick County will work with the subcontractor to re-examine the construction zone to prevent similar issues from occurring again.
