Kai Toews signs professional contract

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Former UNCW basketball player Kai Toews has found a new team.

Toews signing a professional contract to play for Utsunomiya Brex, a first division team in the Japanese B. League.

The 21-year-old Tokyo native left UNCW in December averaging 5.5 points and 4.3 assists per game as a sophomore.

As a freshman, Toews averaged 7.7 assists per game as he earned Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team honors.
