Garage, car destroyed in early morning fire in Burgaw

PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - One person was hurt after a fire destroyed a garage and a vehicle in Burgaw early Thursday morning.

According to a news release from the town of Burgaw, crews with the town’s fire department were dispatched around 4:35 a.m to a home in the 100 block of North Dudley Street.

Once on scene, crews observed heavy fire coming from an attached garage at the home.

Units from Rocky Point, Pender EMS & Fire, as well as Burgaw police, and Burgaw public works assisted.

Officials say one occupant inside the home was hurt and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The garage and a car inside of it were destroyed in the fire. A neighboring home sustained some damage, temporarily displacing the occupant.

Town, county, and state authorities determined the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.
