WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Work on the $83 million River Place development in downtown Wilmington took a major step forward Thursday.
Using a 360-ton crane, crews installed a 40-foot long pedestrian walkway that connects River Place’s north and south towers.
The crane also was used to lift the development’s spa and pool into place.
The $20 million project replaced the Water Street parking deck with 26,000 square feet of parking, retail shops and restaurants and 170 apartments.
According to Project Manager Lucien Ellison with East West Partners, that retail tenants are expected to start upfitting their units in January and open for business in March or April. He also said that condo buyers are expected to be able to move into their units in February.
“In light of two hurricanes, record rainfall and other unforeseen circumstances, we’re still on schedule,” Ellison said.
