WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) -Neighbors have hired a lawyer to help fight a huge development planned for Porters Neck.
Tuesday night, developers held two meetings about the proposal. After an overwhelming number of people showed up at the last meeting, organizers decided it was best to hold two meetings Tuesday as the building can only accommodate 250 people at a time.
Both sessions were packed with neighbors who are against the plans.
Logan Homes wants to build houses, duplexes and apartments in the Porters Neck area near Market Street.
Neighbors say the development would create more traffic troubles, lower their home values, cause flooding issues and add more students to already overcrowded schools.
“Where are you going to put these kids in school? You are going to overcrowd a school that’s two miles away or they’re not going to be at that school and they are going to be bused miles away. How is that fair to anybody around?” resident Christy Crumrine asked.
Logan Homes plans to forward with the request for county commissioners to rezone the property, even without the approval of Porter’s Neck residents.
