WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Tony-winning actor BD Wong and composer Wayne Barker will tour several schools in New Hanover County over the next three days as the pair check out the arts programs at each school.

Wong (Jurassic Park, Mr. Robot) is currently developing a musical adaption of the acclaimed 1995 film Mr. Holland’s Opus which is about the life and career of a musician who puts aside his dreams and becomes a high school music teacher in order to raise a family.

Cape Fear Community College announced in August that Wong had chosen the Wilson Center as the location for the “workshop phase" of the new musical where actors, musicians, and other artists test it out and changes are made.

New Hanover County Schools is among the Wilmington partners chosen to actively collaborate with Wong and Barker on the musical.

Laney High School tweeted out Wednesday morning that Wong and Barker stopped by campus to get a general overview of the school’s arts programs.

Wong and Barker will also visit the Minnie Evans Art Center, New Hanover High School, Hoggard High School, Ashley High School, Murrayville Elementary School, and Murray Middle School.
