WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A homeowner who fatally shot a neighbor who was trying to enter his home last week will not be charged, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

WPD officials say on Sept. 2, Paul Levon Roland Jr., 41, tried to gain entry into a residence on Rutledge Drive by kicking the door in.

The homeowner shot Roland after he forced the door open.

Roland died at the scene.

“We have consulted with the District Attorney’s Office on this incident and have determined that [the homeowner] acted in self-defense,” said Captain Thomas Tilmon of the Wilmington Police Department.
