WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The UNCW men’s basketball team is adding a player who knows a lot about when games in North Carolina.

Shykeim Phillips, a guard out of South Central High School in Winterville, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seahawks beginning this fall.

Phillips, who is listed at 6′2 and 170 pounds, led the Falcons to a 30-1 record and their first 4A state championship last season. He averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.3 steals.

“Shykeim is an explosive guard and really impressed me on his visit,” said UNCW head coach C.B. McGrath. "His burst and athleticism will be beneficial for us on both ends of the court. He can play both guard spots because of his size and skill level.

“Shykeim is a winner and led his team to a state championship last season. We’re excited for him to be a Seahawk.”

Led by Phillips, the Falcons finished the season ranked sixth nationally in USA Today’s Super 25 poll.

He has been invited to play in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game in Greensboro on July 15.
