CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - We now have an official opening date for the Publix store in Carolina Beach.
Publix Commons at Federal Point, located at 1018 Lake Park Boulevard, will hold a grand opening at 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26.
WECT got a sneak peek as employees put the finishing touches on the store Tuesday.
The new Publix store will be more than 50,000-square-feet with additional retail buildings near the site.
This will be the sixth Publix to open in southeastern North Carolina since 2016.
“We have stores in Wilmington. We’ve been serving Wilmington for some time now, so this really and truly was a natural extension of our geography and a great place to do business and serve the community," Kim Reynolds, media and community relations manager for Publix, said.
“This location specifically, with the traffic off of the main road [was a good move], we are just thrilled to open our doors,” Reynolds said.
This Publix sits behind a piece of property Harris Teeter has owned since 2005. According to the mayor of Carolina Beach, Joe Benson, the town extended its conditional use permit, and Harris Teeter has until winter of next year to build.
