Elizabethtown man charged with murder in Fayetteville store clerk’s death

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WECT) - An Elizabethtown man has been charged in connection to the murder of a cashier at a Fayetteville store last month.

Rodriquez D. McNeill, 23, has been charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

“McNeill is currently being treated at a local medical facility regarding an unrelated injury,” the Fayetteville Police Department said in a release. “McNeill will be transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center upon his release from the medical facility.”

He is the second suspect to be charged in the shooting death of 33-year-old Rayd Ali Al Qadhi. Jaequan Wright, 20, of Fayetteville was charged in the case Thursday.

Fayetteville police responded to the Express Mart gas station in the 1500 block of Clinton Road at approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 22.

Officers found Al Qadhi inside the business. He died at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Police believe the homicide began as an armed robbery.
