Hate speech, racist symbol spray-painted on vehicle, sign in Wilmington neighborhood

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Wilmington police are investigating after racist and violent words were spray-painted on the side of a van Sunday night.

It happened in the Long Leaf Acres area. A Wilmington Police Department spokesperson confirmed an officer responded to the 200 block of Ginger Road for a report of a vandalized vehicle.

On a white van, words calling for the killing of black people are spray-painted in neon green.

A person who lives in the area told WECT that stop signs and garbage cans were also tagged with hate speech. A WECT photographer found a stop sign with a green spray-painted swastika on it Monday afternoon.

A police report was filed and WPD is investigating.
