Local animal hospitals hold dog wash fundraiser for improved animal health

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The College Road Animal Hospital and the Carolina Beach Animal Hospital teamed up to wash dogs in order to help pay for outstanding vet bills.

According to the organizers, North Carolina ranks third in the country in having to put down animals because they do not get the treatments they need. Their aim is to decrease that number in any way possible.

“I think that it’s something that we really need to work on and this is just a way that our practice between the two offices can make a little bit of a dent in the situation that we’re facing as a vet community,” said Gina Scarzella, veterinarian.

The animal hospitals hold a few fundraisers a year for the same purpose.

This weekend, they washed 80 dogs and raised over $2,000.
