BOLIVIA, N.C. (WECT) - Donald Browning celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family Friday afternoon.
Browning was born during the Great Depression on May 17, 1919. He says living in that era taught him a lot.
“I was born and raised during a rough time or a tough time and I learned all through the years to take care of money and take care of myself and my loved ones and it’s paid off," said Browning.
He is a World War II veteran who served in the navy for four years. Browning has experienced two heart attacks, a stroke and cancer but said his body just keeps going. He attributes his longevity to good friends, daily exercise, and drinking bourbon and ginger ale every night.
Browning said the most important lesson he’s learned is to treat every one like you want to be treated.
