OCRACOKE, N.C. (WECT) - Three people were hoisted out of a boat taking on water Thursday night, according to the Coast Guard.
Lt. Amanda Faulkner with the US Coast Guard confirms a call came in around midnight for a 41- foot sailing vessel sinking 15 miles east of Ocracoke.

The Coast Guard launched a lifeboat from their station near Cape Hatteras and a MH60 Jayhawk Helicopter from Elizabeth City to rescue the three people on board. The helicopter got on scene in about 45 minutes and successfully pulled the victims off of the boat before it completely sank. A press release from rescuers say the victims were standing in knee deep water when they found them.
All three were wearing their life jackets and no injuries were reported.
“These mariners were minutes away from entering the water in the middle of the night. Not having a life jacket might have cost them their lives," Lt. Faulkner said.
