WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A man accused of shooting a woman during an armed robbery in Springfield, Massachusetts earlier this year was caught in Wilmington Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force said Aleczander Liriano, 21, was taken into custody around 1 p.m. following a traffic stop near Kerr Avenue and Randall Parkway. He was arrested without incident.

Liriano was wanted by the Springfield Police Department on charges of armed robbery, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and assault and battery with a firearm.

Springfield police say Liriano shot a woman during a robbery on March 5. Police responding to the scene found the victim lying in the road. She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but survived.

Liriano is currently in the New Hanover County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Massachusetts. He also has a second arrest warrant for breaking and entering, as well as prior convictions of armed robbery, larceny from a person, and assault and battery.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force is comprised of members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Wilmington Police Department, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, and the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
